Corben Evans Reaches 100 Appearances for Ystrad Rhondda RFC

Stephen Symes18 Apr - 09:02

Evans hits 100 for his boyhood club.

Ystrad Rhondda RFC will mark a major milestone this weekend as captain Corben Evans makes his 100th appearance for the club in Saturday’s Admiral Premiership clash against Pontypridd RFC.

A product of the club’s mini and junior system, Evans has been a key figure in the squad over recent seasons, and now reaches the century mark with his boyhood club — a testament to his commitment, consistency and leadership.

Ahead of the milestone, we caught up with Corben to reflect on his journey so far ?

Corben Evans — 100th Appearance Interview

Q) Corben, first of all, congratulations on reaching 100 appearances! You’ve come through the mini and junior setup — what does it mean to you to reach this milestone?

CE) It’s a massive honour to hit the milestone with my boyhood club. I’ve been here since I was 10 years old so it’s a massive privilege and one I don’t take for granted.

Q) After several months of travelling, you’ve recently returned to action. How does it feel to be back with the boys, preparing for a big clash this weekend?

CE) I loved our time away. It was something me and my partner Ffion have always dreamed of doing so it was now or never for us really, but even when we were away it was tough seeing the boys go each week and not being part of it. I was chomping at the bit to get back into it last week vs Bargoed.

This week has been good — good prep, good energy in the boys, we’re ready to go now.

Q) You’ve stepped into a leadership role this season. How have you found that responsibility?

CE) I’m confident in my leadership. In each team I’ve played in I’ve kind of adapted to the role so I feel it’s been natural. The boys have been great with me stepping in there too which helps. I’m loving it!

Q) Reflecting on your time with Ystrad so far, what have been your standout moments?

CE) There’s a few moments to be fair. Just off the top of my head, the two times we’ve got to the stadium were proud moments regardless of the results. We’ve had a few good away wins in Narberth over the last few years which made for some good bus trips home too.

Too many to count really — hopefully tomorrow tops them all.

Q) Several players have reached big milestones in recent seasons — what is your personal ambition with Ystrad?

CE) I’ll give my everything for this club every time I put the jersey on, until my body won’t allow me no more ?

Q) A number of young players have come through this season. What advice would you give to the next player aiming to reach 100 caps?

CE) My advice to the youngsters would be to grow some thick skin and earn your stripes. It’s a great club to be part of and one the youngsters are fortunate enough to get an opportunity in the Premiership, but with that comes hard work.

A Century in Ystrad Colours

Reaching 100 appearances for any club is a significant achievement — doing so with your boyhood club makes it even more special.

Everyone at Ystrad Rhondda RFC congratulates Corben on reaching this milestone and looks forward to many more appearances in Ystrad colours. ?
