Ystrad Rhondda return to Admiral Premiership action this weekend with a trip west to face Llanelli Wanderers RFC, following last weekend’s postponed fixture against Neath RFC.
After the enforced break, attention now turns back to the road, where Ystrad face another demanding challenge against a Llanelli Wanderers side who are always difficult to contain on home soil.
Team News
The Ystrad coaching team have named their side for Saturday’s away encounter, with Mason Roderick captaining the side from the second row.
The starting XV sees continuity across much of the squad, with a balanced mix of experience and pathway representation as Ystrad look to re-establish momentum following last week’s postponement.
Team Overview
Forwards
In the front row, Tom Stacey, Carl Williams and Nathan English will be tasked with setting the platform at the set piece against a Llanelli pack known for its physical edge. The second-row partnership of Mason Roderick and Cole Parry will play a key role in the tight exchanges and at line-out time.
The back row of Jack Rees, Ben Williams and Kelly Jones offers energy and work rate, but will face a stern test at the breakdown against an aggressive home side.
Backs
At half-back, Keian Richards and Jacob Symes link up once again, with responsibility for controlling tempo and territory in what is expected to be a closely contested battle.
In midfield, Cole Morgan and Logan Hutchings combine to provide balance in both attack and defence, while the back three of Cavan Davies, Kurtis Williams and Alex Webber offer pace and counter-attacking threat from deep.
Finishers
Ystrad’s replacements include Liam Wiggins, Curtis Whitford, Leon Moore, James Owen, Carwyn Owen, Callum Phillips, Lewis Williams and Josh Williams, providing impact and versatility as the game progresses.
The Opposition
Llanelli Wanderers RFC will be looking to make the most of home advantage at Stradey Park. Well organised and physical, they are a side that applies pressure through structure and discipline, particularly on familiar ground.
Ystrad will need to be accurate and patient throughout the 80 minutes to counter the challenges posed by the hosts.
Final Thoughts
After last weekend’s fixture against Neath RFC fell victim to the weather, Ystrad Rhondda will be eager to return to action and build momentum as the Premiership season continues.
Saturday’s trip to Llanelli represents another tough assignment, and the visitors know they will need a committed, collective performance to come away with a positive result.
