Ystrad Rhondda return to Gelligaled Park tomorrow for the first home game of the 2026/27 Admiral Premiership season, with Newbridge RFC making the trip to the Rhondda.
After opening the new campaign on the road at Bargoed last weekend, attention now turns to a first opportunity of the season for the squad to run out in front of the home support.
The corresponding fixture at Gelligaled Park last season produced a hugely competitive contest, with the two sides eventually sharing the points in a 26–26 draw, and another tough Premiership encounter is expected tomorrow.
Team News
Ystrad have named their 23-man matchday squad for tomorrow's fixture, with Corben Evans captaining the side from hooker.
Leon Moore starts at loosehead alongside Evans, with Callum Dawe completing the front row.
Iwan Williams and Caeron Davies combine in the second row, while Sion Edwards, Jayden King and Mackenzie Williams make up the back row.
At half-back, Callum Phillips starts at scrum-half alongside Jacob Symes at fly-half.
Seb Ripley and Thomas Roberts form the midfield partnership, with Cavan Davies and Calen Edwards on the wings and Charlie Stoddard at full-back.
The finishers are Liam Wiggins, Ethan Treharne Ennis, David Webb, Matthew Jeczalek, Ollie Dowler, Keian Richards, Kian Symes and Rhys Dendle.
First Home Game of the Season
Tomorrow represents another important early step in the new campaign, but there is always something different about the first game back at Gelligaled Park.
A busy summer has seen continued work both on and off the field, with new additions joining the senior squad, more players progressing through the club pathway and further improvements taking place around the ground.
Now the Premiership returns to Gelligaled Park and the players will be looking forward to getting back in front of the Ystrad support.
The Opposition
Newbridge arrive in the Rhondda as familiar opponents, with last season's meeting at Gelligaled Park showing just how little there can be between the two sides.
That afternoon finished 26–26, and Ystrad will be expecting another physical and competitive contest tomorrow.
With both sides at the beginning of a new campaign, the fixture provides an early opportunity to build momentum and lay down another marker for the weeks ahead.
Back at Gelligaled Park
After beginning the season away from home, tomorrow is the first chance for Ystrad supporters to see the 2026/27 squad in Premiership action at Gelligaled Park.
New faces have already been introduced into the group, while the matchday squad again features a mixture of established players and those making their way into senior Premiership rugby.
The support home and away continues to be a huge part of the club, and tomorrow is an opportunity to get behind the boys as another season of Premiership rugby returns to the Rhondda.
Kick-off is 2:30pm at Gelligaled Park.
Get up, get behind the boys and help make home advantage count.
