After progressing out of youth as an openside flanker, Sam made the positional move to scrum half and made an immediate impact in the clubs promotion and title winning campaign in 2012. His physical strength made him a threat to opposition defences during that season. Sam moved on to Treherbert, eventually switching back to openside flanker.
